No more River Hull deaths or incidents -- railings needed. Come on "City of Culture".
The Issue
In recent years, at least three people have died in the River Hull -- that's at least three people too many.
As well as this, there are often repeated annual incidents of people falling into the river -- be it accidental or intentional. This usually requires the emergency services to attend the scene, which is a cost for those services also.
The River Hull is also located quite close to the night-life of the town in the city centre, and the pubs -- which is a common theme in these incidents/accidents.
More could be done, especially after being awarded the title of "City of Culture 2017", yet we can't perhaps protect some people of our culture..?
If people have died falling into the River Hull before, people could die there again.
Honestly, intended in the politest of possible ways, how can we respectfully call ourselves the "City of Culture" and say "we respect varied cultures", whilst we're not even looking after the people of our city?
The cost of a life is more valuable than the cost of some railings to be placed in the city centre near the river... Were it a family member of people in positions of power within the council, I am fairly sure that things would be entirely different by now.
People's support matters because the more people who actively choose sign, the more likely it is that the council will debate this issue and change can be made. By prompting the council to discuss the importance of the issue, and the need to introduce extra safety/precautionary measures in the area, we can avoid future incidents from occurring in this area of the city.
Please sign this petition; the safety of individuals living within a city should be of utmost importance to any "City of Culture".
