Do You Have A Father? A Brother? A Husband?

In the 1991 film "Thelma and Louise," Louise asks a man whom she feels has degraded her with lewd sexual suggestions how he would feel if somebody treated his mother, sister, or his wife in such a manner. It's an interesting question that anyone can ask themselves in nearly any situation. How do you feel imagining somebody making jokes about sexually assaulting your brother by giving him a handjob and refusing to stop? Or somebody punching your father in the genitals because they had a bad day? How would the folks at the Reductress, who originated the article we're protesting, or the Huffington Post, who featured it, feel if they did this simple thought experiment? For most people, it is probably a source of discomfort. That's a natural response to imagining your loved ones being treated like they were less than human. Domestic violence and sexual assault shouldn't be considered by any high-profile publication to be acceptable subjects for humor. The Huffington Post either failed to give this even a little thought, or they are largely unaware of what's being featured on their site. Neither of those is okay.
