Please Preserve Pier 54 The Right Way and Restore it to its Former Glory.

The Issue

For many that don't know, Pier 54 is a former Cunard/Cunard White Star Line Pier which was part of the Chelsea Piers. It was designed by Warren and Wetmore who also designed Grand Central Terminal. Pier 54 is the very same pier where the RMS Carpathia docked with the 705 RMS Titanic survivors and where the RMS Lusitania left on May 1st, 1915 for the very last time. Many Immigrants came through Pier 54 and boarded ferries to Ellis Island to have a chance at living the "American Dream". The piers also were used as war ship and troop ship servicing stations during both World Wars. It is a very important landmark that deserves to be restored and preserved for future generations to come.

I'm calling on a plan for Pier 54 to be restored to it's heyday appearance but implement indoor recreation use, and make Pier 53 and Pier 56 the much needed park space with outdoor recreations.

Please help me by both signing this petition and emailing the Hudson River Park at Pier54comments@hrpt.ny.gov and oppose replacing Pier 54 with the newly proposed eye-sore that is Pier 55. Pier 54 is New York's "Last Link" to the Ocean Liner Era.
