Stop the Merge of County Prep's and High Tech’s Performing Arts Programs

The Issue

The various performing arts majors at County Prep and High Tech have been informed about making a drastic change in the performing arts programs. Hudson County Schools of Technology has chosen to make High Tech High School the school for the dance and theater majors, and County Prep High school for music majors. We are beyond hurt and stressed due to this change. We are aware that these schools are a business and a way to profit, but our school is a safe space for most of us. They are taking away that feeling by forcing us to transfer. The students who got accepted to County Prep and High Tech, decided to stay at their school of choice as the place to spend their four years of high school. To change our environment for their wellbeing, especially since we didn’t get an opinion or vote on it, is unfair. The students’ voices should matter to Hudson County Schools of Technology.

The County Prep dance program is entirely different from High Tech’s dance program, and both of their unique differences make each of our performances original. We want to continue expressing movement in our own space, the space that makes us feel at home. As for musical theater, as well as dance, we’re a team, and we don’t do this alone. If you separate the majors to organize each school into a specific category, you’re taking away the teamwork during production. We have videographers, fashion designers, broadcasters, cosmetologists, and music/audio tech helping us. Please sign this petition to help the Performing Arts majors stay and perform at their school of choice in their remaining high school years.
