We come to you today with the devastating news that a part of our Olathe history is set to be DEMOLISHED!
The Hubbard house currently located at 301 S Parker Street in Olathe, Kansas, is a beautiful 19th Century home built in 1887 by David Hubbard. Mr. Hubbard was a member of our community, a Johnson County Surveyor and the first President of the Old Settler's Association in 1898.
David Hubbard's home is still standing today equipped with beautiful original fixtures, so many irreplaceable architecture details of the time and so much life left to give!
The Olathe City Council approved a luxury apartment complex to be built on the property by a developer who purchased the land where the Hubbard House stands. According to the developers plan the road would run where the Hubbard House stands but it DOESN'T have to! The city can adjust the road just a smidge and leave the house standing while completing their approved project! Demolition permits have been issued and the house stands to be DEMOLISHED.
As a long time Olathe resident now raising four children in Olathe, I feel very strongly we are doing our children, grandchildren and all future generations such a grave disservice by continuing to repeatedly tear down pieces of our history here in Olathe.
No, we can not always save every home and building and yes we need to move with the times, however, it is possible to bring pieces of our amazing past with us into the future. This beautiful home is moveable, it is in good condition and it has a future and a team of people that want to move it and bring a part of our history into today and the future.
Trilogy Cultural Arts Center has been working tirelessly with an amazing team of people and was verbally promised to be gifted the house. They would then relocate the house so that it STAYS IN OLATHE and is transformed into a Cultural Arts Center.
It appears those words of a verbal commitment of gifting may not be held true and we NEED your help! Please take a moment to sign and share on all your media outlets. Join us in a media blitz to SAVE THE HUBBARD HOUSE!
