All over Michigan, dogs are being left outside tethered up for days on end without access to proper care. Dogs that are tethered for 24/7, are likely to become aggravated from environmental stress; and therefore more likely to attack. From 1965-2001, 25% of all fatal dog attacks were by dogs that were chained all day (Karen Delsi, Fatal Dog Attacks). From another study, an estimated 51% of dog bites were by dogs who were tethered up or had been chained without a break (Elaine Modlin, animal control officer). In varying weather depending on the seasons, dogs left outside can overheat or freeze. Few laws or ordinances address the cruelty of chaining and/or tethering. Dogs that are kept chained are more at risk for deadly diseases such as Erythema Infectiosum (also known as filth disease), Canine Parvovirus Type 2, External Parasites such as ticks and fleas, etc. Our goal is to raise awareness in communities and to encourage government officials that action needs to be taken by adding ordinances to protect these dogs. By signing this petition you are supporting our cause to help dogs confined by chains to live better lives.
Our organization also has a Go Fund Me Page to donate money to our cause. All proceeds go to helping run fundraisers and sponsor organizations such as C.H.A.I.N.E.D.
