Hi all,
It has just become known to me that another product by the manufacturer of Bravecto is being suspected of causing adverse reactions in dogs, some of which were serious enough to kill dogs.
Adverse reactions to Nobivac 4, manufactured by Merck/MSD, were severe enough for a number of vets and veterinary organizations in Britain to have issued warnings to dog owners and vets not to use it on pups younger than 9 weeks old.
It has also come to my attention that Nobivac 4 is still being administered in veterinary practices across Britain, and probably across the Globe, to dogs from seven weeks old, with little warning of the potential side effects. This petition will therefore be followed by a petition against Nobivac 4 soon, should Merck not update the Nobivac 4 package insert to include the warning that it should NOT be used on pups younger than 9 weeks.
Drugs are becoming more and more dangerous to our precious furkids, and in my opinion this is because these drugs are not being researched and tested sufficiently. This is all the more reason for me to urge as many supporters as possible to share this petition as widely as possible in order to get the support of animal lovers across the globe. This is a global petition, which will be delivered to decision making authorities in several countries. People need to be made aware that some drugs are not as safe as certain vets portray them to be.
Once again, I hereby pledge NOT to declare a victory unless it is a TRUE victory, meaning that the drug will be withdrawn from the market. This time, I am also stating this while dropping the “second option”, which would have been to withdraw for further research and until it can be proven that Bravecto did NOT cause the adverse reactions and deaths in question. I will NOT declare a victory unless the drug is completely withdrawn. Reason for this change of heart is that too many dogs are now dying after the administration of Bravecto, causing the anecdotal evidence to increase almost exponentially. In these times, with all the stress going on in our world, we DO NOT need an additional source of stress such as having to wonder whether our furkids will be safe in the hands of our vets. I believe that making an example of this company that, in the face of the fact that so many dogs suffer or die after ingesting this drug, keeps supplying this drug and keeps denying that it could possibly be the reason for an adverse reaction or a death, it and our companies like it will in future make extra sure that they have their facts together before releasing another drug.
Until next time, take care!
Antoinette
PS: The photo is of my pup when she was only 8 weeks old. At that age I very nearly was bulldozed by a vet to give her Bravecto while she was weighing not even 1 kilogram, which would have definitely been extra label since the minimum age is 2 kilograms. Thank goodness I decided against it!
