Do you want a BETTER, SAFE and DEVELOPED INDIA?
Time is running fast, population is increasing and there are more people buying vehicles. This in turn is causing traffic issues affecting most of the cities and also throughout rest of India. We see citizens (drivers and pedestrians) not following signals, driving in opposite direction, speeding (just few examples). Due to this travel time increases, lot of accidents happen and there is loss of human lives. The fact that transport departments of various states are unable to educate people about traffic discipline is compounding the problems even more. Educating the people and same time enforcement by various authorities is extremely important to reduce the traffic issues.
On one side transport authorities do have the process of written exams on traffic rules before giving driver’s license. But who will educate
- the pedestrians
- the kids who are driving before they reach the age for getting drivers license
- whoever is riding on bicycles
How can we really ensure everybody in the country gets required education on traffic discipline?
I think this can be addressed only in one way. We need to introduce traffic education as complete subject in school curriculum. This should be a compulsory subject in primary, middle and high school in any school education board. This will at-least ensure that all future generations get the education on traffic discipline.
Some school education boards do have traffic guidelines like following signals, using zebra crossings etc covered in some subject. But the education should be extensive similar to any other subjects like Maths etc. I think Transport Authority of India can help in framing the syllabus. Traffic education is surely the need of the hour.
There is no doubt that transport authority should also look into proper infrastructure for citizens to follow the rules and also rules should be enforced strictly. But same time awareness of the rules is extremely important.
