Save the historic site of Edina Flyte Tyme Studios

The Issue

During the partnership of James Harris, III (aka Jimmy Jam) and Terry Lewis, they have earned more than 100 gold, platinum, multi-platinum and diamond albums, and produced 41 Billboard Top 10 songs. This includes 26 number one R&B and 16 number one Hot 100 hit records.

There have been three Flyte Time Studios: the first at 4330 Nicollette Avenue South in Minneapolis from 1982-1988; the second at 4100 W. 76th Street in Edina from 1988-2003; and one in Santa Monica, CA from 2005-2013. The Edina Studo was their creative headquarters longer than any other location.

The Minneapolis studio is where Control (1986) and Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) were recorded, although post-production for Rhythm Nation occurred in Edina. Janet (1993) and The Velvet Rope (1997) were recorded in the Edina Flyte Tyme Studio - along with countless other smash hit records. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were the most sought after and influential production/songwriting duo for the next three decades (1980's, 1990's, and 2000's) - most of which was done at the Edina studio!

The site faces demolition to build a 70-unit housing development. Be the change!
