How the MATATAG curriculum shape the minds of students, is it really beneficial?

The MATATAG Curriculum Explained | Diwa ...

MATATAG curriculum also known as "Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa," was introduced on January 30, 2023, under the leadership of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z.

It is an update to the Philippine education system that aims to improve things. It begins with kindergarten through 10th grade, really focusing on reading, math, and life skills. It emphasizes core abilities students need, like reading well, doing numbers, and learning stuff for jobs and daily life.

But is it really applicable to today's education system?

As the country prepares for the new school year, majority of students as well as faculties has urged to suspend the implementation of MATATAG curriculum.

“The new school year brings new burdens to our teachers and students, while old problems in our education system persist,” the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) said in a statement.

Other problems addressed in this Curriculum are:

  • Heavier workloads
  • Extension of School hours
  • Inaccurateness and improperness in implementation
  • Lack of executive programming

and so much more

Most students, often feel overwhelmed or feel an intense amount of pressure of this Curriculum stating that "Students are not robots". Experiencing little to no sleep and neglecting their needs for the sake of finishing tasks. Though other people feels indifferent with the current situation, we still need to make a change especially to the education system for the better future of us students.
