Destroy Boys is a California native band, but are also much more. They have openly supported and continue to openly support both Joey Armstrong and his band, SWMRS. In July of last year (2020), claims of abuse had been made of a girl who is a survivor (Lydia Night) of Armstrong's abuse. The two had dated from 2016 to 2018, Night having been 16 and parting ways with Armstrong just before her 18th birthday. During this time, Armstrong had been 22 when the relationship began and 24 when it ended. He had also forced Night to keep it a secret, as well as saying he didn't want to do anything sexually until she was 18, yet would go on to both sexually and emotionally manipulate and abuse her. When she wasn't even legal, especially in California where the age of consent is 18, not 16 nor 17. With Destroy Boys, especially their one guitarist, Vi (Violet Mayugba), had been the first person to become aware of the abuse Night had faced, yet Mayugba had gone on to gaslight Night, along with making false claims of Night being a white supremacist. Mayugba had also threatened to call the police on Night, yet she now claims to say things such as ACAB/1312 (the abbreviation for All Cops Are Bastards). She also plays side by side with Narsai Malik, who had also been manipulative and toxic towards his ex significant other. When the accusations had been a topic of discussion, Mayugba and Malik wouldn't speak and explain their truths personally, yet would have the frontperson/lead guitarist Alexia Roditis speak on their behalf. Alexia had also stated (estimately 2019) that she was going to start referring to their/her self white, though they are white passing and are Argentinian. I'm not just doing this because I want to see Destroy Boys have to take responsibility, or that I want to see Joey Armstrong arrested/locked up even though I do. It's because I am a survivor of abuse as well. Though I had never been sexually abused, I have been physically and mentally abuse by people I was supposed to trust, which is why I still continue to avoid some topics/places because of trauma, and also become easily afraid of middle-aged men who are/were supposed to be a father figure to me. I'm 18 years old now and haven't lived with the men who have abused me in years, but I still worry that come back, that they'll put me in harm's way once again. Along with Night, I also know what it's like to be gaslighted and not be believed and "make stuff up" even though it happened/happens. No only us, but several other people have too. So please, remove Destroy from the line up for Sad Summer Fest, and from the list of bands represented by Hopeless Records. I also wish to get Joey Armstrong arrested. Abuse is not and will never be punk.
