Why this petition matters

Started by LEKHOTLA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL

Dear Honourable Dr Nkosazana Clarice Dlamini-Zuma

We would like to request the Department of Corporate  Governance and Traditional Affairs, through the honourable Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, to recognize the kingship of Makholokoe, their language and their heritage. The Application has already been forwarded to COGTA March this year (2020). On the application, we recommended that chief of Makholokoe (Morena Edward Liphatsoana II), should be recognized as the King of Makholokoe based on the fact that he is the only chief from the descendants of our great great king  (King Wetsi/Oetsi).

Morena Liphatsoana II is presently based in Daggakraal, Mpumalanga. He is  recognized and a Senior Traditional Leader by COGTA. We believe that the position of a Senior Traditional Leader is not a suitable position for him as his great grandfather was a ruler of Makholokoe. Makholokoe had five (5) Houses of traditional leadership, of which morena Liphatsoana II belongs to one of those houses which is the highest monarchy of Makholokoe (Mahasa). The other houses of (Marenana) "Principal Traditional Leaders" are from the following houses, Maubane, Maphale, Tshele and Mataonana.

The other houses of Makholokoe cannot be functional if Chief Liphatsoana II is not recognized as a king.

Warm Regards

Mokholoane Moloi (Project Manager)                                                      Lekhotla Traditional Council (Daggakraal)
