Honoring Coach N.K. Jenkins

Honoring Coach N.K. Jenkins
The Issue
Coach N.K. Jenkins was one of the most successful coaches in Dothan's history. In his 20 year history of coaching at Young Jr High School, he amassed outstanding records in all three sports he headed up.
- Football record of 129-17-4. Eleven of his teams were undefeated.
- Basketball record of 264-49 and State Champions in the first ever Alabama state championship held (1962-1963 season)
- Track team held the State Champion title for 3 years
When the middle school program was implemented in 1978, Coach Jenkins moved to Honeysuckle Middle School and taught until his retirement in 1985.
On and off the field, Coach Jenkins was a man admired by many, but especially his players. As one former student, Michael Keel, put it "I learned the meaning of character and integrity-these traits were your gift to all of us who were fortunate to play for you". These sentiments have been echoed throughout the years because he led by example. Now many years later, the boys he coached have grown into men. They've held on to his memory because of the man Coach Jenkins was and in turn, they've taught new generations what it means to have character and integrity. Putting the impeccable record aside still leaves an impeccable man worthy of recognition.
For those reasons, (and many others), we would like to have the field at Rip Hewes Stadium named "N.K. Jenkins Field". This in no way takes away from the well-deserved recognition of the stadium being named after W.D. "Rip" Hewes.
This request is to name the FIELD of the stadium only.
If you support this request, we invite you to sign this petition as we prepare to present this to the Recreation Board in the near future. (More information on that to follow at a later date.)
