Let's introduce "cash for containers" in Western Australia

Let's introduce "cash for containers" in Western Australia
The issue
The "cash for containers" scheme would introduce a 10c refund on all drinks containers up to 3 liters when returned to a recycling depot.
This scheme is already in place in SA and NT and has been hugely successful in reducing the amount of plastics, cardboard and aluminum in landfill sites in these states.
South Australia leads the nation in the recovery, recycling and litter reduction of beverage containers with a current, overall return rate of 76.5%. With the refund scheme, beverage containers make up only 2.2% of litter.
In 2015–16, more than 582 million containers (43,165 tonnes) were recovered by collection depots for recycling. This means that $58 million was refunded to the community during that period.
NSW are set to commence their "cash for containers" scheme in July 2017 and QLD has announced it will follow suit shortly after. This is the perfect time to put pressure on the decision makers in WA to do the same.
We are writing to the Minister for the Environment in WA to request for this clearly successful and beneficial program to be implemented.
Please read the letter and sign the petition if you support our cause to make a change in recycling in WA.
