The Issue

Honor the Vote.
Enforce Term Limits
for Mayor & City Council.

The people of Gallatin have already spoken at the ballot box. Now it's time for the city to respect that decision -  without exception.

To the Mayor and Members of the Gallatin City Council:

The citizens of Gallatin went to the polls and made their voices heard. We voted in favor of term limits- not as a suggestion, not as a preference, but as a democratic mandate. The results were clear. The will of the people was expressed through the most sacred act of our democracy: the ballot.

"Government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed." The voters of Gallatin have given their answer. Now it is time for those in power to listen.

We, the undersigned citizens of Gallatin, Tennessee, demand the following:

  • Full and immediate enforcement of the term limits approved by Gallatin voters
  • Application of these term limits to the Mayor and all City Council members without exception or exemption
  • No legal maneuvers, delays, or reinterpretations designed to protect incumbents from the will of the voters
  • A public, transparent accounting of how and when term limits will be enforced
  • Respect for the democratic process and the citizens who participate in it

We are not a fringe group. We are your neighbors, your coworkers, your friends, and your constituents. We shop on Main Street. We send our kids to Gallatin schools. We pay taxes that fund this city. And we voted.  Clearly and decisively, for term limits 80/20.

The people have spoken. The era of the good ole boy network calling the shots over the objections of ordinary Gallatin citizens must come to an end. Democracy only works when elected officials honor its results- even when those results are inconvenient for those in power.

We will be watching. We will remember. And we will vote accordingly.

Sincerely,

The Citizens of Gallatin, Tennessee
