He leveraged his financial crimes—including laundering illicit funds through offshore accounts and falsifying property ownership—to fund and conceal these abuses. That is why this memorial is so important. The least the public can do is to say, in a meaningful way: We acknowledge and are sorry you have been failed so severely. We see you.
