The Issue

For over 30 years I had the distinct privilege of working alongside three outstanding public servants who served the city, county, and state of South Carolina with determined devotion. The late J.R. Jones, whose service spanned over 35 years, was rightly honored with a section of HWY 10 named in his memory. However, there are two other significant individuals whose commitment mirrors that of Jones, yet their recognition remains unseen.

Firstly, Wallace Middleton served in public works for many years while simultaneously performing his responsibilities as a reserve deputy without falter. His relentless dedication to public service merits him equal acknowledgment.

Secondly, Emanuel Hollywood Crowder offered this community more than 40 years of dedicated service. This immense commitment demonstrates his unfaltering dedication to our community and makes him equally deserving of similar honor.

It's notable that public roads named after distinguished civil servants contribute to a strong community identity and provide a way of honoring their significant contributions (source: National League of Cities report).

Given the remarkable merits of Wallace Middleton and Emanuel Crowder, I urge the relevant authorities to consider dedicating sections of our highways in their names, honoring their steadfast contribution to our community. Let's provide them the recognition they so rightfully earned, ensuring their legacy endures for the generations to come. Please sign this petition.
