Take action in regards to the rising rates of dog abuse.

Take action in regards to the rising rates of dog abuse.
The issue
Animal abuse is rife in New Zealand, and while it may not be as prevalent as it is in other countries, it is a growing concern that needs to be addressed before it becomes a larger problem.
Reports of dog thefts have become more common as the problems of backyard breeding and dog fighting are not adequately addressed. The inaction of the government in regards to these issues has seemingly contributed to the growing numbers of family pets being stolen, and the apparent disinterest of the NZ Police Force does not mirror the general public opinion that strong action against nefarious practices must be taken.
We are calling for a more deliberate approach to how the Police respond to dog thefts, and for a comprehensive, hard-hitting Public Service Campaign.
There must be people out there who are not directly involved in dog fighting, backyard breeding, or dog theft, but know those who are. Those are the people we need to get on our side. Through education, and a stark look at the consequences of these abhorrent practices, we can reach out to these people and ask for their help.
As such, we are calling on you, Michael Woodhouse, and the following ministers, to stand up and take a stand against the atrocities committed against our canine companions. Will you help us?
Hon. Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga, as the Corrections Minister.
Hon. Jo Goodhew, as the Community and Voluntary Sector Minister.
Hon. Paul Goldsmith, as the ACC Minister.
Hon. Simon Bridges, as the associate Justice Minister.
Hon. Amy Adams, as the Justice Minister.
Hon. Steven Joyce, as the Regulatory Reform Minister.
Hon. John Key, as the Prime Minister.
