Stop Hopsin from performing at Canadian Music Week

Toronto has been down this road before. In 2015 the city voiced its objection to abusive performers with a petition of over 40,000 signatures to have a violently misogynistic musical artist removed from the lineup at a major festival. The people spoke and we prevented our tax dollars from going to a performer who promotes violence against women.
Alarmingly, two years later Canadian Music Week has scheduled violently sexist musician Hopsin to headline a week of musical performances partly funded by both the federal and provincial governments. Hopsin's lyrics are riddled with gendered violence. He's not playing a character, and is referred to by his real name, Marcus, in the video for "All Your Fault", in which the lyrics are as follows: "I f***in' hate this b***h, her name can sit on a grave, the only reason she ain't dead is 'cause my kid on the way."
Women are physically assaulted and murdered on a regular basis from coast to coast in this country. Shame on CMW for supporting an artist who promotes violence against women. We call on CMW and the various promoters, partners, and levels of government supporting this show to do the right thing and cancel it. The women of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the world deserve better.
