The temporary closure of Hornby St / Dandenong Rd crossover is causing much frustration for the residents of Windsor & Prahran. While Yarra Trams maintain that the closure is a direct result of 17 incidents and a very poor safety record, the Minister for Roads and Road Safety paints a different picture with a total of 5 casualties in the past 5 years.

And while safety should always be paramount, the number of incidents over this period fails to justify the sudden closure, calling into question the motives of Yarra Trams/PTV. With no obvious safety improvements, notification, consultation with, or consideration of the implications on local residents to retain the crossover, it's feared that the permanent closure would be the easy way out for the authorities.

Despite residents having to deal with extreme Chapel Street congestion to access their own homes, all other Dandenong Road crossovers remain open for the benefit of their local residents.

With Vicroads Vince Panaro expected to make his assessment and decision on the future of the crossover in early March 2016, now is the time to voice your opposition.
