NZ Should Have 3 Day Weekends

NZ Should Have 3 Day Weekends
The issue
My name is Samara and I’m an intermediate student from Auckland. I go to school five days a week and then have a very busy weekend so I don’t get much time to relax and sleep in. There are many more with this type of lifestyle so I believe that we should make the weekend three days long.
I am writing you this message as someone who wants enough time during the week to just sit down and relax and thinks that a 3 day weekend would be beneficial for both mental and physical health.
A three-day weekend means more time to spend with family and friends, to go out and explore the world, and to relax from the pressures of daily work and school. Imagine if, rather than a few times a year, we had a three day weekend every week. Three day weekends might also be one of the easiest steps we could take to quickly reduce our environmental impact and future proof our world.
When people travel to school and work five days a week it has a huge impact on the environment and other people. The gas fumes and electricity from driving to where they need to be plus everything that you do there is extremely awful for the environment. It would be a lot healthier to have a three day weekend because most people would just stay at home, take walks or carpool.
It also means more family time. Since school is five days a week and adults work a lot family’s don’t have enough time to go on trips and spend quality time together. But if there are 3 day weekends families will be more connected and enjoy being and spending time with each other.
“Studies suggest that two-day weekends disrupt the circadian rhythm, the body’s internal clock that directs sleep cycles. When we catch up on missed sleep at the weekend, one study of adolescents found, just two days of lie-ins is enough to impact our circadian rhythm” (Yahoo News). This statement tells us that more sleep helps keep our circadian rhythm healthy. But with all the sleepless nights people have from stress because of work and school leads to weight gain, impulsivity, slower thinking etc. So if we had longer weekends we can keep that all healthy and feel exceptional as well.
People may think that if there are three day weekends making there be four day weeks there kids who go to school won’t get as much work done which will make them fall behind. Even so, if the students get homework afterschool and maybe even some on the weekend all the extra work will add up to another day of school meaning that they won’t actually be falling behind if they do their homework plus they would feel more relaxed and have more time to spend with friends and do extra curriculums.
In conclusion, three day weekends not only will help with family and stress but also the environment. That means it can truly impact people's lives for the better and make every living thing on earth happier and healthier. So, I propose that all schools should run from Monday to Thursday and suggest that corporate businesses follow suit.
Thank you for your time,
