Vote "NO" on amendments to Summary Offences Act

Vote "NO" on amendments to Summary Offences Act

The issue

The lower house has passed a series of amendments to the Summary Offenses Act that will have a chilling effect on free speech in Victoria.  These amendments will allow police to break up virtually any protest, at their discretion, and even arrest protestors for what are currently legal actions, such as standing in front of a business holding a picket sign.

The Upper House will vote on these amendments this week.  We urge the Upper House to vote NO and keep free speech safe for all Victorians.
