Thank you to all who signed the petition to keep the Marriage Definition in the Cayman Islands to remain as between one man and one woman!

 

As of 30th March 2019 there are currently 21,141 registered Caymanian voters.

The Cayman Islands Constitution Order (2009) Section 70 states that once 25% of registered voters sign a petition, the Cayman Islands Government is required to hold a national referendum on the matter.

Of the 5,286 registered Caymanian voters required to put the Marriage Definition to a national vote and out of the hands of only one man (the Chief Justice), we have confirmed that over 1,322 registered Caymanian voters have signed the petition within 7 hours!

 

Voters from every polling station in the Cayman Islands signed the petition with the highest amount of petitions signed by West Bay North registered Caymanian voters.

 

Tied for the second highest amount of votes for keeping the Marriage Definition to remain as between one man and one woman came from George Town Central, George Town South and West Bay Central all tied.

 

We anticipate submitting the required 5,286+ signed petitions within 72 hours to the Cabinet Secretary so that the people of the Cayman Islands have a national vote on this matter.
