I am a resident of Homer Glen, IL. On January 7, 2025, my family of five received a staggering $600 water bill for usage between December 5, 2024, and January 5, 2025. The water company (Illinois American Water) claims that we used a whopping 18,500 gallons of water in just 31 days, with claims of a fixture running at full-blast for four straight days without any concrete evidence (starting at 3am Dec 8th). 

Strangely enough, this is far from an isolated incident. Many of our neighbors have faced similar, unjustly inflated bills, where an unfounded 10,000 gallons were tacked onto their usage without proof. We are demanded to pay these absurd amounts by Illinois American Water with seemingly no room to dispute.

On average our family of five uses approximately 6,000 - 8,000 gallons of water per month billed about $250-$280 monthly. It is incomprehensible and highly improbable for any residential household to consume three times that amount, as we have been billed. A reasonable customer can only respond with suspicion towards billing practices of this nature that consistently yield startlingly inflated results. 

This petition is not just personal; it reflects the shared grievances of the Homer Glen community. Our call is for Illinois American Water to provide clear, comprehensible breakdowns of residential water usage, establish a transparent and efficient process for questioning and disputing mind-boggling charges, and ensure that families are billed fairly and accurately to prevent future disputes.
