Homeless Individuals at Rainbow Park

Homeless Individuals at Rainbow Park
The Issue
I am one among many in Sarnia, ON, who believe that homelessness can happen to anyone of any age, race or gender for any number of reasons. In Rainbow Park alone, we have individuals who range under the age of 20 and over the age of 50 living in tents. They are our neighbors, they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect!
We are calling on the city not to force these individuals to relocate but instead provide them with access to washrooms - a fundamental right as stated by United Nations. The lack of sanitation facilities is not only a violation of human rights but also poses health risks. One of the twenty plus people within the park was recently getting treated for an infection likely caused from poor hygiene/lack of a washroom. According to a report by World Health Organization (WHO), inadequate sanitation is estimated to cause 432,000 diarrheal deaths annually and is a major factor in several neglected tropical diseases.
Operations Warm Hearts and Full Bellies has committed itself fully towards ensuring that Rainbow Park remains clean while providing support for its homeless residents. This organization will continue working with these individuals for as long as necessary.
We urge you not just consider this petition but act upon it urgently because every individual deserves basic amenities irrespective their living conditions or financial status. Let's ensure that those who find themselves homeless are treated with compassion rather than being further marginalized through forced relocation.
Please sign this petition today and help us make Sarnia an inclusive city where everyone's rights are respected.
