PLEASE SHOW UP IN PERSON: The Hollywood Beach Culture and Community Center Redevelopment Proposal is on the City meeting agenda for Wednesday, Feb 2nd. 5 PM.
The City Commission will be considering business agreements for the proposed Hollywood Beach Culture and Community Center skyscraper on public land. The Ground Lease and Comprehensive Agreement are a 5 p.m. time certain agenda item.
Please rally people to come to City Hall and speak in opposition.
This is a huge breach of public trust, and we do not need this condo tower. We can make improvements to the property without it. We will NOT let our barrier island turn into a condo canyon that throws dark shadows on our sand.

The project needs 3 NO votes from the City Commission in order to be squashed.
The City Commission could choose to let the public vote on the project, but it is unlikely they will do so.
It is possible this project may be subject to lawsuits if it is passed. If those lawsuits fail, the last resort is a public referendum. We can stop it with enough signatures from registered Hollywood voters.
Some residents will be at City Hall Feb 2nd with clipboards. Those clipboards will have the official referendum petition that you can sign while you’re at City Hall. A referendum will override the City Commission’s decision if they choose to approve this awful project. You must be a registered Hollywood voter to sign the official referendum petition.
See you at City Hall at 5 pm sharp, Feb 2nd. You will need a mask and an ID. You do not have to preregister.
You can also choose to speak at 9 AM at Citizen Comments during the CRA meeting if you can't make it at 5 PM.5 PM is when it is on the agenda. Be prepared to speak for 2-3 minutes.
Thank you.
3 acres of this public land has deed restrictions for "open space, park, recreation, and public purpose." The President of the Hollywood Historical Society, Clive Taylor, states that the land was given to the city 47 years ago with the promise that this land would remain open space to the public in order to allow a variance of higher density for The Summit condominiums on the neighboring property. The city only paid $10 for this land based on those restrictions. The higher density would never have been allowed if they knew that someday, the city of Hollywood would betray the deed and allow even higher density than what it was traded for.
1 acre of this public land was purchased with Land and Water Conservation Funds for the purpose of public recreation and would need National Park Service approval to make any changes.
There is a developer proposal for a 99 year lease on this public land between Azalea Terrace and Bougainvillea Terrace, extending from A1A all the way to the beach. The city should have told the developer that this land is not to be used for a private condominium, but they have not. In fact, the city is still trying to force the development on our public land, even though they knew about the deed restrictions.
Email your city commission and ask them to vote NO on the 1301 skyscraper proposal. We need 3 NO votes. The vote is February 2nd. If you are a Hollywood resident, please tell them in your email.
