UPDATE: Two people named in this petition have been fired as youth directors since we started it but we still have work to do.

Sign & share our petition to make sure Young Chicago Authors survivors' calls for justice are answered and demand the powerful artist-activists empowering this "well-known abuser" are held accountable. Literacy nonprofit Young Chicago Authors just fired their directors due to years of negligence re: Malcolm London & his mentor Roger Bonair-Agard's sexual abuse. YCA says they took action in the wake of a survivor's statement after Roger recently lost his position as director at one of YCA's partner orgs Free Write Chicago (and Free Write subsequently issued their own public statement of accountability).

However it's extremely important to note that according to Free Write they fired Roger after he tried to hire fellow YCA artist London to work with vulnerable young people and community members pulled out due to Malcolm's involvement. Not only has YCA still not named Malcolm London as an abuser to date, last year they continued to feature him on their website banner alongside program directors Kevin Coval & Jamila Woods - and Jamila showed up to support London at a protest with local civil rights leader Damon Williams. Malcolm was predictably publicized as a hero all over news like Black Lives Matter, NPR & The TriiBe - regaining prominence in the exact space he promised to remove himself from after survivors called him out LAST time. These people we call feminist activists boosted him until going suddenly silent in the wake of folks' renewed outcry... without taking any responsibility for harm aside from Chance The Rapper who issued a statement distancing himself from London in August.

With additional reports in the past year of Malcolm's current partner, famous actress Indya Moore (POSE, QUEEN & SLIM) cyberstalking London's victims, London collaborator Noname blocking users building support for survivors, and noted abolitionist and Mariame Kaba, who led Malcolm's accountability process, publicly refusing to comment, the confirmation via Free Write's statement that Malcolm has been attempting to work with young people makes it clear this network is allowing the same thing that happened with Roger Bonair-Agard for years to happen with Malcolm London. The cycle of violence is literally continuing under their watch.

Just like the Young Chicago Authors outed Roger Bonair-Agard, we need these influential entities who have shown up for Malcolm London recently (but NOT for survivors) to issue statements about their involvement with him, support reparations for victims of YCA artists, and actually participate in the kinds of transformative community accountability they publicly claim to believe in. We cannot trust those who have been making this situation worse for years without full transparency. The time for action is now.
