The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and concerned community members, demand immediate action from the City of St. Louis and relevant authorities regarding the unacceptable conditions at SoHo Lux Apartments in Soulard.

SoHo Lux markets itself as a “luxury” apartment complex, but the reality is far from it. Residents are being forced to live in unsafe, unsanitary, and exploitative conditions, while paying premium prices. The ownership and management have lost the trust of the community, with current owners facing criminal charges for fraud, and recent management changes raising suspicion of continued unethical practices.

We are calling attention to the following serious issues:

• Health hazards including mold and animal feces in hallways, the stench of rotting food and cigarette smoke throughout the building, and frequent flooding that goes unresolved.

• Dangerous living conditions, with repeated air conditioning failures even during heat advisories, putting residents’ health at risk.

• Security concerns, including cars being broken into, packages regularly stolen, and a lack of transparency or response from management.

• Unregulated parking, where residents’ assigned spots are ignored and people are towed at random with no accountability.

• Misrepresentation of luxury living, as the conditions are far below what is promised or what the rent prices justify.

We call upon:

• The City of St. Louis, the Department of Health, and the Building Division to immediately inspect SoHo Lux Apartments for health, safety, and building code violations.

• City Council representatives to investigate ownership, pursue code enforcement, and advocate for tenant protections.

• The City to hold the owners and management accountable and, if necessary, assist residents in seeking new ownership or third-party management.

We demand better. Residents deserve safe, clean, and honest living conditions — not to be trapped in a building run by people with a track record of fraud and neglect. We urge the city and all relevant authorities to act now.
