Hold Secret Service Accountable (Criminal Negligence in Trump Assassination Attempt)
The Issue
As a deeply concerned citizen, and former law enforcement officer, I am invested in upholding fairness and accountability in our government, I am alarmed and disgusted by the obvious negligence displayed by Kimberly Cheatle, current Director of the United State's Secret Service (USSS).
Ultimately, It is her responsibility to ensure the safety of present and former presidents of the United States. However, she failed in her duties when it came to the protection of former president Donald Trump, on July 13th, 2024. Shockingly, she even acknowledged this failing in an interview with ABC news, stating that she was worried about placing secret service agents on the very rooftop the shooter was able to easily access, citing her concern for her agents safety due to the rooftop's "slope".
This statement was a blatant lie, as the slope of the rooftop the would-be-assassin scaled was significantly less than the rooftop in which secret service agents that eliminated the threat, were positioned. It is understandable to have concern for your agents, but considering Cheatles' statement holds no truth, and also considering it is the only job of the USSS to protect the president at all costs, it is clear that this assassination attempt, resulting in the injury of Former President Donald Trump, only took place due to criminal negligence on the part of the USSS, and more specifically, Cheatle herself.
This is the very job [the only job] of the secret service – to put themselves in harm's way ensuring the safety of the nation's leaders. Cheatles' disregard for this core responsibility undermines the credibility of her office and the principles upon which the Secret Service is founded. Such breaches are not merely administrative oversights; they could potentially have severe consequences for national security and should not be looked over.
Only 37 out of a possible 750 agents are typically entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the president and immediate family (Source: "In the President's Secret Service" by Ronald Kessler). Cheatles' decision not to utilize these agents effectively raises serious questions over her judgment and suitability for her role.
We therefore call for Kimberly Cheatle to be REMOVED from her office for criminal negligence. Furthermore, we call for Cheatle to be FEDERALLY CHARGED under 18 U.S. Code § 242, Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law:
"Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both..."
This is an important step in ensuring that individuals are held accountable for their actions or negligence, no matter their position of power. Please sign this petition to demand justice, accountability, and the upholding of our national security standards.
