Hold Rover Accountable: Find Jupiter and Fix Pet Sitter Screening Now
The Issue
Jupiter is missing, and the app that was supposed to keep her safe has questions to answer.
Jupiter, a 7-year-old Miniature Pinscher, disappeared while in the care of a pet sitter hired through the Rover app. Her owner, Lisa Cole of Yelm, Washington, never authorized the sitter to take Jupiter anywhere, but a video showed the dog riding in his car. When Cole returned home after the sitter reported Jupiter missing, she found the other dog locked in a bedroom, the front door unlocked, and a washing machine full of sopping wet towels and sheets. The sitter has since gone silent.
For Cole, an Army veteran battling Stage 4 breast cancer, Jupiter wasn't just a pet. She was a lifeline — helping Cole manage anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The loss has been devastating.
Rover says it deactivated the sitter and is cooperating with law enforcement. But deactivating one bad actor isn't accountability — it's damage control. Rover profits from connecting strangers with our animals. When something goes wrong, the company needs to do more than post flyers. We're calling on Rover's CEO to implement real background checks, require GPS check-ins during stays, and create a transparent process for when pets go missing in their care. Jupiter deserves to be found. No family should go through this again.
Sign this petition to demand Rover take real responsibility — for Jupiter, and for every pet in their network.
