Hold Republic Services Accountable — Fairfield & Suisun Deserve Reliable Trash Collection

Hold Republic Services Accountable — Fairfield & Suisun Deserve Reliable Trash Collection

The Issue

To: Fairfield City Council, Suisun City Council & Public Works Departments

We, the residents of Fairfield and Suisun City, demand immediate and long-term action in response to Republic Services’ failure to collect trash during their ongoing labor strike. Our streets are filling with garbage, creating public health risks, foul smells, and fire hazards — all while we continue to pay for services that are not being provided.

Republic Services is the exclusive waste hauler in both cities under contracts that allow them to suspend trash pickup during labor disputes, with no refund, no backup plan, and no emergency protections for residents. That’s unacceptable.

We Demand:

Emergency action now: Set up more drop-off sites, bring in temporary haulers, or provide automatic billing credits during the strike.

Renegotiate or rebid the franchise agreements with Republic Services: Explore more accountable, local, and reliable waste haulers.
Ban labor-strike loopholes: Future contracts must exclude “force majeure” clauses that excuse trash haulers from service during labor disputes.

Adopt a local “Sanitation Bill of Rights” for Fairfield and Suisun, including:

Emergency trash collection plans
Fair billing practices during missed service
Transparent public communication and accountability.

We pay for clean and consistent trash service — not legal loopholes and overflowing garbage. Our cities must protect public health and stand up for residents, not corporate waste giants.
