Hold Perpetrators of Human Trafficking and Abuse Accountable

Hold Perpetrators of Human Trafficking and Abuse Accountable
The Issue
I am a survivor. I was trafficked, nearly killed, and contracted AIDS due to forced rape. This was all part of a horrifying scheme to make money off my suffering. The people who should have protected me - the police, hospitals, shelters, churches - were instead tied up in this illegal operation that left me alone on the streets. My rights as an LGBT+ individual were trampled upon; I wasn't allowed to participate in any LGBT+ functions without facing severe consequences.
This is not just my story; it's the story of countless others who are victims of human trafficking and abuse every day. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally with hundreds of thousands right here in our country.
The predators who exploit us need to be held accountable for their actions - including those who victimize or kill members of the LGBT+ community out of hatred or prejudice. We must also address those supporting harmful policies that further endanger us.
Victims like myself often face additional dangers when seeking help due to threats from our abusers or lackadaisical law enforcement responses. This needs change immediately.
We call for stricter laws against human trafficking and abuse, better protection for victims seeking help, and more resources dedicated towards helping survivors rebuild their lives after such traumatic experiences.
We demand justice for all victims – regardless if they're women subjected to domestic violence or individuals exploited through sex trafficking – because we all deserve safety and respect.
Please sign this petition today so we can start making these necessary changes together.
