Hold Parents Accountable for Ignoring Court Orders

The Issue

I am a single mum who faced the painful ordeal of being dragged through the courts by my ex-partner just so he could gain access to see our child. Despite my willingness and proof before the courts that I have never obstructed his access to our child, he has failed to show up. He was granted weekends and weekdays visitations, along with a fair split of responsibilities and support, such as covering half of the schooling costs and being involved in pick-ups, given that we live in the same city. Unfortunately, the father has not adhered to any of his commitments, leaving all the responsibilities of raising our child solely on my shoulders.

This situation is not just unfair to me but, more importantly, it is detrimental to the child's well-being. Non-compliance to court agreements by parents should not be overlooked. Parents who choose to take legal action for custody but then abandon their responsibilities damage their children's emotional and psychological health and also put unnecessary pressure on the custodial parent.

There must be stricter consequences for such actions. We propose that any parent who fails to adhere to agreed-upon court sanctions without reasonable cause should face severe penalties. These can include imprisonment or a substantial fine, as such actions should be seen as a form of child abuse and neglect. Furthermore, legal amendments should ensure that both parents contribute equitably to the child’s upbringing if they reside in the same city, relieving the primary caretaker from unilateral burden.

Join us in advocating for justice and mental safety for our children by holding neglectful parents accountable. Let us come together to urge lawmakers to enforce existing laws and create clearer, stricter legal frameworks that protect the interests and well-being of children.

Sign this petition to help ensure our children's needs are prioritized and met, pressing for change in how we enforce parental agreements. Together, let's make a difference in the lives of countless children and single parents facing similar challenges.
