Hold Melissa Accountable for Unsafe Conditions for our Children

The Issue

Two children were hospitalized today due to an unsafe driver hitting them while attempting to bicycle to school, highlighting a grave and persistent safety issue. Over the past two years, parents and Meadow Run Residents have repeatedly expressed concerns over the safety of our children as they enter and exit school premises as well as the traffic throughout the neighborhood for irresponsible drivers wanting to skirt the carpool line. The lack of adequate safety measures has become a critical concern, and it's high time we held the responsible parties accountable. It’s been repeatedly expressed that this instance was not an if but a when and the when has occurred.

The city, police department, and school district must collaborate to implement effective strategies that ensure the safety of our children. These measures should include more stringent speed limits, increased signage, monitoring of Blue Stem Drive in Meadow Run and the deployment of crossing guards during school hours. Additionally, law enforcement officers should patrol these areas to deter reckless driving and provide immediate response in case of incidents.

Nationwide statistics show that safety measures significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents in school zones. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 25,000 children are injured by cars every year in school zones. This is unacceptable, and we must act now to protect our community's most vulnerable members.

By signing this petition, you are demanding concrete steps be taken to safeguard our children. Stand with us as we urge the city officials, local police, and school district to prioritize and implement necessary safety protocols. Together, we can prevent future tragedies and ensure our children's daily commute to school is safe. Please sign this petition to make a difference.
