On December 4th, 2017, Timothy Lauren Heller had accused American singer-songwriter Melanie Martinez of rape and sexual molestation (specifically unwanted oral sex and penetration) , detailing the alleged events through a twitter post.  Melanie had responded to this hours later, by not only objectively confirming a sexual interaction had taken place between herself and Timothy, but that she "never said no to what we chose to do together", showcasing a profound misunderstanding of what consent truly means. Another alleged victim, Madeleine Ciciliot Carina, had also spoke up, stating that Melanie "begged me over and over again to sleep with her n i finally gave in. she wore me down. i said yes. but it was not the same with timothy." And in a series of leaked private text messages between herself and youtuber "Edwin's generation" (Edwin Costa, and they leaked due to the latter getting hacked), Madeleine claimed Melanie had taken her to the bathroom at a party to perform sexual acts on her while she was on ecstasy and Melanie was sober, but insists it was consensual because "she said yes". Though Madeleine has denied it was rape multiple times, attempting to engage in intercourse as a sober person with someone who's drunk, on drugs, or generally under the influence is classified as sexual assault at the minimum, if not rape. Madeleine also suggests there's more women Melanie had pressured into having sex with her and are too afraid to speak out due to backlash. Melanie, to this day, has not responded to Madeleine's claims. 

In addition to her initial response, Melanie released a follow-up statement in which she thanks her fans for "researching the timeline, analyze past Instagram photos, and question the story being told, which reveal her false statements". She also released "PiggyBack" on SoundCloud, a clear clapback at Timothy whom she's implied only accused her for "fame". 

Not only is it highly inappropriate to release a diss track in response to allegations as serious as these, but to state something occurred between you and the alleged victim that was supposedly "consensual" and then imply nothing could've happened because of the timeline raises too many red flags. Keep in mind that Martinez' now ex-associates that knew and worked with her personally had made the decision to stand with Timothy Heller (Maddie Carina, Stella Rose, Gina Frey, and Allison Balchi) alongside Timothy's close friends (Joshua Goodson, Abigail Breslin) who have attested to hearing about what Melanie had done to her months prior to her coming out about it.

I have created this petition because too many rapists walk free with zero consequences today. The justice system in general not on the side of the survivors, and it's been repeatedly shown that as long as an assailant is famous or loved enough, they can get away with serious crimes. Melanie's fans have attacked these victims for far too long, while Melanie herself remained silent since issuing these statements. It is not right that she is allowed to participate in world tours, maintain a platform, and be signed to major record labels, while the people she has violated receive hate, mental health issues, death threats, doxxing, and even hacking. 

Though unlikely to happen, I call on Atlantic Records to drop Melanie Martinez and revoke any support or platform she currently holds. Given the serious nature of the assault allegations, it is crucial that her public presence be reevaluated until a thorough investigation can be conducted. While the victim does not have DNA evidence, that should not prevent an investigation from taking place; credibility and support for survivors must remain paramount. Justice and accountability are essential, and industry leaders must take responsibility for ensuring a safe environment free from misconduct. Melanie Martinez’s continued platform undermines the importance of addressing these allegations seriously and supporting victims of assault.
