I like many others, chose to bank with Nationwide Building Society because of its mutual values, ones that reflect diversity, inclusion, and a commitment to societal betterment. For years, I have recommended Nationwide to my family and friends, confident in its alignment with the values I hold dear. However, I now feel betrayed. Kevin Parry, the Chair of Nationwide, recently attended a 'business breakfast' with The Reform Party—a political group known for positions that undermine these very values.

The Reform Party's stances on issues like climate change denial and their attacks on British values of tolerance and inclusivity are troubling. It's alarming that Kevin Parry, as the leader of a key financial institution, is the first major bank leader to formally engage with them. Nationwide's mission and reputation are at risk if it appears to align with or endorse groups that conflict with its stated principles of inclusivity and diversity.

We call upon Kevin Parry to be held fully accountable to Nationwide's membership for his actions. He must explain why he chose to attend this meeting and share with the membership the outcomes and findings. Transparency is crucial to maintaining the trust of members who rely on Nationwide not only for financial stability but also for ethical leadership.
