Hold Judges Accountable for Releasing Repeat Violent Offenders
The Issue
We are calling for immediate accountability for judges who continue to release violent criminals back into our communities. Too many innocent people are being hurt or killed because the justice system refuses to take repeat offenders seriously. When a judge makes a release decision that directly puts the public in danger, there should be consequences. Real ones.
Why are bartenders held liable for over serving but Judges are not for letting criminals out of jail?
What we are demanding:
- Judges who release repeat violent offenders and later see those same offenders commit new violent crimes must face legal and financial accountability.
- State legislatures must update bail, parole and pretrial release laws so public safety comes first.
- Courts should be required to use evidence based risk assessments before allowing any violent offender to walk free.
- High risk offenders should never be released without strict supervision, electronic monitoring and mandatory treatment if needed.
- Judicial immunity needs to end when a judge’s decision results in preventable harm to innocent people. Accountability should exist at every level.
Why this matters
Communities are tired of seeing the same violent individuals released again and again. People are dying because judges are making reckless decisions with zero consequences. This is not compassion. This is negligence. Public safety should come before politics, pressure or ideology. If judges can’t make decisions that protect the people, they should be removed or held responsible.
Real Recent Examples
1. Charlotte, North Carolina
Decarlos Brown Jr., with a long record of violent charges, was released without meaningful restrictions. Only weeks later, he brutally stabbed a 23 year old woman to death on a light rail train. This case was so shocking that lawmakers began pushing federal legislation to hold judges accountable.
2. California State Hospital Release
Bill Gene Hobbs, who had a long history of violent and assaultive behavior, was released even after mental health experts testified that he was still dangerous. Community outrage exploded after learning he was cleared for release despite warnings from professionals who said he wasn’t safe.
3. Kentucky’s Early Release of a Child Killer
Ronald Exantus, convicted of stabbing a six year old boy to death, was released nearly nine years early for “good behavior.” He was quickly arrested again for violating parole. The fact that he is still eligible for release shows how broken the system truly is.
4. Charlotte’s Repeat Offender Epidemic
Local reporting shows that more than half of violent arrests involve repeat offenders. One juvenile was arrested 111 times and repeatedly released back onto the street. Officers openly call it a “catch and release cycle” that puts the community at constant risk.
Why This Petition Is Necessary
This isn’t about politics. It’s about safety. Families should not have to worry about being harmed because a judge decided to give a violent criminal “one more chance.” Accountability is the backbone of a functioning justice system. Without it, violence rises, trust collapses and communities suffer.
