The Issue

Mr. Vincent has let us down, and it’s heartbreaking to see. The majority of his students—bright, capable individuals with dreams and determination—are now on the brink of failing. Each red mark on a grade sheet isn’t just a number; it’s a reflection of hours of confusion, frustration, and lost confidence. This isn’t just about grades—it’s about our education, our motivation, and our trust in those meant to guide us.

How?

Mr. Vincent has shown time and time again, his teaching is ineffective. The rigorous pop quizzes we take, often have questions regarding topics our teacher hasn't showed us. Thats pretty annoying right? But imagine walking into class to be greeted with a surprise midterm! Well we can't study for tests but thats okay since he teaches us in class right? No. Mr. Vincent introduced an assignment on ionic compounds with 147 questions to be submitted by the end of class, without teaching said topic. The day his paternity leave started, he assigned 106 questions to be submitted by the end of class.  The strong majority of students visibly struggled with the topic, as reflected in their grade. Despite the lack of understanding, we were still given a 67 question test the next day to complete in the 52 minute class period. When he does teach, his lectures are monotonous, and he fails to clarify complex topics or provide helpful feedback. The California Department of Education outlines standards that require students to "conduct scientific investigations" and "use scientific evidence," which is directly supported by lab work. Mr. Vincent's class has had very few, if any to be considered, labs. Chemistry has the potential to be fascinating and inspiring—if taught right.

What now?

We are asking the administration and school board to take immediate action. Wether it be issuing proper training to said teacher or more drastic measures, such as suspension or termination. Grade books are filled with C's and F's, even in students who earn higher grades in other subjects. If the majority of students are failing, it is a clear indication that there is a problem with how the subject is being taught.

What can you do?

The change starts here. Sign this petition and share it to others who show concern. Your support is crucial for us to thrive academically and restore faith in our chemistry department. We as students will take a stand to better the future of TVHS.
