Hold Ghost Gun Purchasers and Manufacturers Accountable for Violence

Hold Ghost Gun Purchasers and Manufacturers Accountable for Violence
The Issue
I'm a mother crying out for the safety of not only my child but all the innocent children out there. My son, who we'll call John Doe, was hunted down by teenage gang members wielding ghost guns - weapons obtained so easily online. They shot him in the right hand and stomach and after three surgeries, he still has a long road ahead in his recovery. Every breath he takes now is a blessing. Yet, he remains traumatized, a victim of a violent crime.
Statistics show that more than 30% of guns retrieved at crime scenes were ghost guns in 2019 in certain cities of the US (source: Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives). These untraceable guns, often sold online and bought by teenagers, are causing fear, injury, and death. But they continue to be sold.
It's high time we make changes in our laws. I propose that any teenager or individual who acquires a ghost gun online and inflicts harm, should be accountable. They should be charged, undergo a mental health evaluation and be banned from any future purchases. It doesn't stop there. The manufacturers of these ghost guns should also be held responsible for the violence ensuing from their sales.
A law across the United States should be implemented, where both purchaser and manufacturer of ghost guns are held accountable. Every wound inflicted, every life lost, should not be in vain. With this petition, we aim to transform our pain into action, our fear into change. For my son, for your children and for the sake of a safer America. Please sign this petition.
