The Issue

On the tragic night of December 7, 2024, a young life was unjustly cut short, a victim of negligence from those sworn to protect and serve. An intoxicated child, merely 15 years old, found herself at the home of Fort Bragg police officers Padraic and Noelle Ferris, seeking refuge. Instead of receiving the assistance she needed, she was dismissed, told to leave on foot despite her vulnerable state. This negligence led to her untimely death, a tragedy symbolized by the hashtags #LLR and #forever15 that now resonate with a community mourning her loss.

The job of a police officer is not merely to enforce the law but to serve and protect those in need. When a child in distress knocks at their door, it is their duty to respond with compassion and care, not with indifference and neglect. The actions, or rather inactions, of Officers Padraic and Noelle Ferris highlight a grave lapse in judgment and a failure to uphold the responsibilities entrusted to them by the community of Fort Bragg.

This petition seeks accountability for this dereliction of duty. It demands a thorough investigation by the Fort Bragg Police Department into the events of that night. We must ensure that such an oversight never happens again, and an apology is extended to the affected family, alongside commitments to prevent future occurrences.

Furthermore, this petition calls for the implementation of mandatory training programs focusing on crisis intervention and mental health awareness for all law enforcement officers. These programs must prioritize recognizing and properly responding to individuals, especially children, in vulnerable circumstances. Training should be accompanied by clear departmental guidelines to handle such critical situations effectively.

By signing this petition, you demand justice for the young life lost and advocate for systemic change within the Fort Bragg Police Department. Together, we can transform our community’s law enforcement culture into one that is genuinely protective, responsive, and accountable. Please sign and share this petition widely to ensure your voice is heard and help prevent such tragedies in the future. #JusticeFor15 #NeverAgain #LLR
