Hold Ford and SK On accountable for civil rights abuses at Kentucky’s BlueOval SK plant

The Issue

We, the undersigned, stand with the Kentucky workers of BlueOval SK who have come forward with deeply troubling allegations of civil rights violations, discrimination, and retaliation. No one should be punished, harassed, or ignored at work—especially in a publicly backed project that promised good, safe jobs.

A lawsuit filed in Hardin Circuit Court describes shocking treatment of employees. One worker without a right hand says his repeated requests for disability accommodations were ignored, and he was later intimidated for reporting the issue. Another plaintiff—the only Black employee under his supervisor—alleges he was pressured to write false reports in exchange for a promotion and fired after reporting racial harassment. A female supervisor says she was excluded from communications, forced to attend meetings none of her male peers had to, and ultimately fired for speaking up. Others report unsafe conditions, being denied proper workers' comp after serious injuries, and retaliated against for trying to unionize.

These aren’t isolated complaints—they reveal a toxic culture of discrimination, suppression, and neglect at a facility that was supposed to represent Kentucky’s future. Ford and SK On received billions in public investment to build this plant. In return, Kentuckians were promised fair, good-paying jobs. Instead, 1,500 people are facing layoffs, and many others say they were mistreated for simply asking to be treated with dignity.

We are calling on Governor Andy Beshear, the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, and state legislators to open a full investigation into workplace practices at BlueOval SK and to ensure the workers affected receive justice, including full compensation and protection from future retaliation.

The EV transition cannot be built on exploitation. If companies take public money, they must uphold public values. That means safe workplaces, civil rights protections, and accountability for abuse.
