Hold Busta Rhymes Accountable for Misinforming the Origins of Hip Hop

The Issue

Hip Hop, a cultural movement that was built from the streets of America, is deeply personal to me and is ingrained in the identity of our FBA community. Its creation was rooted in our struggles, dreams, stories, and the resilience of my ancestors who sacrificed their lives for freedom and a flourishing culture. Yet, today, its history is being distorted. Busta Rhymes' audacious claims that Latino people invented hip hop alongside Foundational Black Americans equally overlooks the fact that this powerful art form emerged predominantly from the hardship, talent, and innovative work of Foundational Black Americans in the 1970s (Source: Britannica).

These false assertions not only rob the FBA community of its rightful recognition within Hip Hop culture but also perpetuates harmful stereotypes and misinformation. It’s important that history is preserved correctly and that the contributions of FBA to one of the most influential music genres worldwide are rightfully acknowledged.

This petition seeks to challenge Busta Rhymes' distortion of history and calls for accountability. We demand that he be fined by the Foundational Black American Union  (FBA) for his misleading statements which undermine the cultural contributions of the Foundational American community. Join us in preserving the true origins of Hip Hop. Be part of the movement. Demand truth. Sign this petition today.
