Hold BGSU Accountable on Fixing Their Parking!
The Issue
The other day, commuting to campus with a $100+ Driving Permit, I was unable to find any parking for my class. Weaving through students lots along with many other searching cars, there was little luck. Even the pay-per-lots were full.
Last year, when I was part of our last record breaking freshman class, I also faced this issue, and unfortunately, now as a commuter and not living on campus, very little has changed. I put money into a parking pass last year only to find no spots, and use it less than five times, parking on the streets almost every day. This seems to be repeating again, there just isn’t enough space for the sheer volume of students.
This is an all around issue. BGSU is a lovely campus, but as it keeps getting bigger, it needs to adjust and adapt. Last year there was a boom, and the incoming freshman class was record breaking. Once again, for Fall of 2026, it is once more record breaking, with over 4,000 students coming in, and it likely will be again next year.
This makes parking unfortunately even more tighter, with BGSU often fixing the issue by giving away lots, such as commuter lots to on campus students, but this doesn’t fix the issue. Time and time again, BGSU keeps selling way more parking permits then there are parking spots. It is unfair and ridiculous for students to have to pay $100+ to park on campus, just to have so many cars driving around unable to find a single place to park. It’s like buying tickets to a concert just to arrive there and learn your seat doesn’t even exist. It’s scammy and eats money out of our wallets with little benefit.
This all around issue must be addressed for the good of all students. Either more parking lots or garage must be created, or driver permits must be limited. The ratio of permits sold to spots right now is ridiculous, and frankly unfair to all who put money towards one. Regardless, something must be done. If you believe this as well, or struggled with parking yourself, please consider signing this petition today. With enough signatures it can be sent to or seen by BGSU’s higher ups, and truly make a difference.
