We, the students and family members of students at Barrow Arts and Sciences, maintain that in 2019-2021, Barrow County School System and its representatives lured students to move from their zoned district schools to attend the new magnet school Barrow Arts and Sciences. They did so by stating during in-person presentations and face-to-face meetings that the students would have opportunities to participate in traditional sports and activities by means of BASA providing said sports, shuttling to district schools, or shuttling to off property venues. The students were told that if the sport they wanted to participate in had enough interest gathered, the school would “make it happen”. The students were also told they would have an opportunity to participate in WGI. Academically, the school enticed potential students by claiming BASA would have schooling opportunities available in connection with the University of Georgia. Parents agreed to switch their children to the school with these assurances made to them. After the student & family commitments to BASA were already made, the verbal assurances of the programs continued, while written statements of school sports, academics, and arts offerings began to evolve and exclude access to GHSA sports or accommodating requests for participation in these sports. The WGI and University of Georgia opportunities that were assured to families never came to fruition. All signees of this document attest that the above statements are true and factual.
