Hold Agitators Accountable for Inciting Violence and Misinformation in the UK

The Issue

As a wave of violent riots have swept across the UK in the past week, as a result of misinformation being spread surrounding the identity of a murder suspect in Southport, in relation to the murder of three young girls.

This petition calls on the people of the UK pressure their local MP's to lend their voice to calling for the arrests / investigation of those responsible for inciting these uncalled for acts of racist thuggery.

As such bad faith actors / agitators such as Stephen Yaxley-Lennon AKA: Tommy Robinson, Katie Hopkins, Andrew Tate, Laurence Fox, along with Reform UK MP's Nigel Farage, Richard Tice, and Lee Anderson, should all have their social media posts thoroughly investigated and subsequently prosecuted if they are found to have breached UK laws on incitement. And that this process should be applied both to those named above and to any others who have contributed to the misinformation, race-baiting, or any other type of incitement towards that fuelled these violent outbursts.

What is the legal definition of incitement in the UK?

In UK law, incitement is the act of persuading, encouraging, instigating, pressuring, or threatening someone to commit a crime. This term has largely been replaced by "encouragement" or "assistance" under the Serious Crime Act 2007.

Can incitement be applied to online or social media communications under UK law?

Yes, under UK law, incitement can be applied to online or social media communications. Any communication encouraging or influencing unlawful behaviour can be considered incitement, regardless of the medium through which it's conveyed.

---

It is particularly concerning that at least 3 (that I know of) elected members of parliament have engaged in misinformation regarding the perception of "two-tier policing" which will only have further stoked the anger and distrust that fuels these rioters.

No city wants to see this violence and vandalism, or to be associated with this vile racist & bigoted rhetoric. We the undersigned call for our elected MP's to bring our voices and our desire to see justice brought before Parliament.
