Very disappointingly,  Historic England chose not to list the Debenhams building. It did, acknowledge the quality and value of the building and urged the council to consider the damage its loss and replacement with the proposed area may do to the conservation area and listed buildings around it. 

Please sign and share the is new petition asking the council to make a local listing of the building to protect it, so that it can be repurposed, as is being done to former stores in other towns such as Richmond. That would be the more environmentally responsible option and would preserve the quality and character of the heart of the town.
