The Issue
WHO IS PHYLLICIA?
Phyllicia Phillips Scott was a loving daughter, sister, wife, and aunt, who brought light to everyone she met. Phyllicia graduated from Clark Atlanta University in 2011, where she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She went on to finish law school and become a highly sought after attorney for Fortune 500 companies. Additionally, she channeled her love of all things beautiful into her co-founding of AMP Beauty LA in 2019.
Phyllicia married her college sweetheart in 2020, and began undergoing IVF treatment in hopes of starting a family. Phyllicia experienced pain from the treatment which was dismissed by her physician. Less than 48 hours after her procedure, she went into cardiac arrest, with blood clots surrounding her heart and lungs. She died the next day.
THE FACTS
Black women are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy related care.
70% of Black women have experienced their pain being dismissed by a care provider.
THE MISSION
The Phyllicia Phillips Scott Foundation mission is to attain healthcare equity for Black women and improve healthcare for all.
WHY SIGN?
The goal of our petition is to establish:
-Physician accountability for equitable healthcare practices through standardized pain assessment documentation
- a National Inter-Agency Group, led by the Executive Branch, to Counter Healthcare Inequities related to Black Women's Health
