Hindu temples taxed by Government

The Issue

Title: Stop Discriminatory Taxation of Hindu Temples in Karnataka

To the Honorable Chief Minister and Members of the Karnataka Government,

We, the undersigned, urgently petition the Karnataka government to cease its discriminatory taxation policy targeting Hindu temples. This unjust practice undermines the principles of equality and secularism enshrined in our constitution and violates the fundamental rights of millions of citizens who adhere to the Hindu faith.

It has come to our attention that Hindu temples in Karnataka are subjected to burdensome taxes, while places of worship belonging to other religious denominations are exempt. This discriminatory taxation not only perpetuates religious bias but also fosters division and inequality within our society.

Hindu temples are integral to our cultural and religious heritage, serving as centers for community gatherings, charitable activities, and cultural preservation efforts. By imposing excessive taxes on these institutions, the Karnataka government impedes their ability to fulfill their social and religious duties effectively.

We urge the Karnataka government to uphold the principles of secularism and equality by implementing a fair and equitable tax regime that treats all places of worship equally under the law. Discriminatory taxation of Hindu temples must cease immediately, and a just and unbiased approach to taxation must be adopted.

We call on the Karnataka government to rectify this injustice promptly and ensure that all citizens, regardless of their religious affiliation, are treated with dignity and fairness.

Sincerely,
Ashwin Chavan
