Investigate the history of animal neglect related to Bart the cat, pursue charges as necessary, and remove the rest of the animals from the homes involved
The Issue
Towards the end of January, stories Bart the "zombie" cat hit the media. Supposedly he was taken for dead after being hit by a car and was buried, but dug out of his grave and went to a neighbor's home for food five days later. There is recorded evidence that the owner's girlfriend knew he was alive and moving when he was taken to the side of the road to be buried. The "grave" itself is extremely shallow and next to a road. The neighbor's stories have changed to state that the cat was buried on a variety of different days and came to her house on different days. We are unsure how long he was neglected without adequate medical care even *if* they truly thought he was dead before he returned. This neighbor has a history of claiming at least one other cat died and came back to life, and there is a history of suspicious and violent cat deaths under her care. She has posted very neglectful and disturbing stories on her Facebook page that have been archived with screenshots. The cats are not neutered, roam the neighborhood, and are not getting medical care as needed. In one video, the neighbor records her cat convulsing and dying before she records another video of it after it "came back from the dead." She later states the cat died a second time and stayed dead.
We are concerned that these cats are abused at worst and neglected at best. We are also concerned that the neighbor's desire to claim cats are rising from the dead is leading her to make dangerous decisions and refuse care for sick or injured cats. Due to conflicting stories, we can't even be sure how they became sick or injured in the first place. Something is wrong.
We ask that the proper authorities investigate these strange incidents and file charges as needed. We also ask that steps are taken to remove these cats from a potentially dangerous situation.
We want to know what really happened to Bart the cat.
