Why this petition matters

Started by Evan Bryan

Oak trees such as the 'Huffman Street Oak' were quite common in the Tualatin Valley of Oregon. Many are well over 100 years old. Unfortunately, several of these historic trees have been removed for roads, developments, etc. The Huffman Street Oak north of Hillsboro has been lucky. It wasn't cut down when the land was farmed, the Bonneville Power Administration left it alone when they put in a power line near it. Today, it's luck is being put to the test again...

The City of Hillsboro plans to extend NE Huffman Street and the tree is right in the middle of the proposed road...

I'm hoping to encourage the city to adjust their proposal to go around the tree and incorporate it into their development plans.

I have started this petition to urge the Hillsboro City Council to protect this historic tree. These trees have existed before the city of Hillsboro was even formed. They are an important part of this regions history and should be preserved.

Thank you for your time. My goal is to show the council and the City Manager that people do care about this tree and that we want it preserved. Construction on the street extension is expected to begin in December.
